It was a great day on Saturday for The Belfry Theatre in Noblesville.
Kids of all ages came out and showcased their talents on the Hamilton County Courthouse Square.
Family and friends and neighbors as well as the community packed their lawn chairs, found a seat on the lawn and cheered on our talented young people.
There was singing of songs and playing the ukulele, piano, fiddle and guitar. There was comedy. There was Rubik’s Cube solving. And more.
Cass Henson sang and played guitar to “Yellow” by Coldplay and “Cleopatra” by The Lumineers. Harry De Reu performed a skit. Lennon Hofer tried to beat his own time solving various Rubik’s Cubes. Lauren Sciaudone sang “Maybe This Time” from “Cabaret” and “On My Own” from “Les Miserable” musicals. Gracelynn Hyman sang “Can’t Blame A Girl” by Sabrina Carpenter and “Welcome to Wonderland” by Anson Sebra. Anna Gamoian sang “Rise Up” by Andra Day and “Shallow” by Lady Gaga. Anna Gamoian will sing. Ashley Applegate performed “Traitor” by Olivia Rodrigo and “Someone You Loved” by Lewis Capaldi. Parker Applegate performed “You Will Be Found” from “Dear Evan Hansen” musical and “A Million Dreams” from “The Greatest Showman” movie musical. Tyler Williams and Hattie Sparks played guitar and fiddle and sang “Snow” by Zach Bryan and “Travelin’ On,” a song Williams wrote. Zoe Srinivasan sang “Zombie” by The Cranberries and “Dance Monkey” by Tones and I. Addie McMillan sang “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys and “Waving Through A Window” from “Dear Evan Hansen musical, and she was also the talent show’s emcee.
At the end of the talent show, The Belfry’s 57th season shows for 2021-22 were announced to those in attendance.
There are six shows in The Belfry’s upcoming season, all at larger venues, including Noblesville First United Methodist Church and at The Auditorium at The Annex at Ivy Tech.
Now here’s the skinny for the shows in the season:
-“Cheaper by the Dozen” will be directed by Carla Crandall of Noblesville at the Noblesville First United Methodist Church, Oct. 21-31. Crandall last directed this show in 2016 at The Belfry. But it’s not too soon to do it again. It’s such a great show, based on a true story, telling the account of the Gilbreth family whose inventor father, known for bringing better efficiency to factories, keeps his family of 12 children running just as efficiently. The 2003 movie of the same name starred Steve Martin. It’s a comedy with a large cast of nearly 20. Auditions were just announced and will be 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 22 and 23 at The Belfry Theatre in Noblesville.
-”The Dining Room” will be directed by new Belfry director Diane Wilson of Carmel at The Auditorium at The Annex at Ivy Tech in Noblesville, Jan. 21-30. The play, a comedy of manners set in a dining room where a dozen-and-a-half scenes from different households overlap and intertwine, was last directed at The Belfry in fall 2007, by Karla Ries. I watched the show a few years back in downtown Carmel, put on by Carmel Theatre Co., and it was a hoot.
-”Lilies of the Field”will be directed by Linnea Leatherman at Noblesville First UMC, on March 18-27, at The Auditorium at Ivy Tech, on March 18-27. The 1963 movie, by the same name, tells the story of an itinerant worker who encounters a group of East German nuns, who believe he has been sent to them by God to build them a new chapel. In the movie, Sidney Ponteious stars.
-”Drinking Habits,” a comedy directed by Nancy Laffert of McCordsvilley, the same director who brought us “Our Town” and “A Christmas Carol,” will be on stage at The Auditorium at The Annex at Ivy Tech, on June 23-July 3.
-The Belfry Theatre’s Apprentice Players youth production will be “Frozen Jr.,” directed by James H. Williams of Fishers, the last weekend of July 2022. Unlike other years for the youth, which alternate years from 5-13 and 13-20, the “Frozen Jr” production will open auditions to youth ages 5-18.
Watch for on-sale ticket dates in the near future.
